For Immediate Release:
Donations to Support Cycling Advocacy Part of
Wheeling Wheelmen’s Mission
Buffalo Grove,
Illinois – January 26, 2009 – The Wheeling Wheelmen, a
north-suburban cycling club, announced they will be donating funds
to key advocacy groups. A total of $2500 will be donated at a formal
presentation during their February club meeting. Breakouts of the
donations are as follows:
-
$1000 to the Active
Transportation Alliance formerly the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation
(CBF)
-
$1000 to the League of Illinois
Bicyclists (LIB)
-
$500 to the League of American
Bicyclists (LAB)
One of the
advocacy groups that the Wheelmen always supports has recently
changed their name and expanded their mission to become the Active
Transportation Alliance (www.activetrans.org).
They’ve added pedestrian and transit advocacy to the important work
of improving bicycling in Chicagoland. “Our donation will fuel their
efforts to make bicycling, walking and transit safe, easy and fun
for everyone,” stated Meg Ewen, Wheelmen’s new President.
The club is optimistic that
additional donations can be made later in the year. “With rising
costs to produce both the St. Pat’s Ride and Harmon 100
invitational, the Wheelmen were forced to cut back on donations,”
explained Ewen. “We hope for great weather and large turnouts for
both the St. Pat’s Ride on March 22nd and the Harmon on
September 13th so that more donations should be on their
way.”
